Home

modern artworkHome is where the heart is. It is a place where you feel at ease. A businessman can ditch his suit and tie, parents can chase rowdy toddlers without being judged, and more.  Home is also the one place where you can walk around in comfortable clothes and decorate based on your personal style. Thankfully, your options are unlimited because of the new contemporary furnishings that are available to you. They allow you to celebrate modernism or stick to somewhat traditional, without being the same things you parents had in their home.

Modernism and Home Decor

Modern and traditionalModernism is a way of design and architecture that has strong lines, but also is very conceptual. It is a lot like a mosaic in which you get the idea of what is there, but it is interrupted by something at the same time. It may confuse the mind, especially if you are looking at modern art, but also makes you want to see and understand the hidden meaning of the paintings. When you look at modernized furniture, you will notice sleek lines, bold colors, and other features that make it stand out. The same is true for architectural styles. There are a lot of themed buildings and homes that look more space aged than most expect. One example of this is the Chemosphere, which is located in the Hollywood Hills. Other subtler, modern architecture may include square homes that resemble boxes that are located on cliff so that you may look out a window and feel like you are flying.

Mixing Modern and Traditional

modern meets traditionalEmbracing modern over traditional is somewhat easy for some people. For others, it is hard to give up the traditional idea completely to embrace the more modern side of art and decor. For those who are not completely ready to give up tradition, there are still plenty of home decor ideas. You could choose to keep the traditional furnishings, but add modern art work and statues to the room or have sleek furniture combined with rustic wall art. The choice is yours and you can do anything you want if you prefer to not go completely modern or traditional. In fact, mixing the two very unique styles will further emphasize that it is your home and you have decorated in a way that makes you the most comfortable. When you are mixing modern and traditional, you should choose one type of decor style as the rooms main feature, but then bust it up with a little of the other. Either way, it is an endless amount of possibilities for those who are not ready to go full on traditional or modern.

Live Your Life

chemosphereHome decorating is not a chore to be dreaded. The truth is, you can do anything you want, and it will still be impressive. Even if outsiders do not agree with your choices, it does not matter as long as you are content. A decorator can help you find the happy medium between outstanding and comfortable if you do not feel that you are up for the task alone. They can help you create a home that you feel is worthy of you kicking off your shoes in.

Custom Basement Bars & Man Caves

man caveWhen we look at a home, we typically expect to see a woman’s touch all around the main living area. Women are the decorators in 90% of homes. They have the magic touch, but it can leave men feeling a little uncomfortable if they are trying to enjoy watching the Super Bowl with a group of guys from work. Therefore, a lot of people are making use of their basements to give the man of the house his own space. These “rooms” have always been associated with cold, dark, damp areas of a home that were wasted space except for storage. Now, though, people are starting to look at those old basements in a new way. Therefore, if you want to add “living space” we recommend that you consider custom basement bars and man caves.

The Man Cave

basement man caveMan caves are commonly associated with places for men to go and have a great time without leaving home and without disturbing their wives. Therefore, many have bars set up for boy’s nights and major sporting event viewing. They can be decorated with “manly” items while the women’s things stay upstairs in the main house. It can be a great space for dads to unwind when they come home from work and a place for him to camp out if he ends up in the dog house with his beloved partner.

Things Every Man Wants in the Cave

cedar barVirtually all man caves are required to have a bar of some sort. It seems to be an unwritten law among men that you cannot call it a cave without one. We custom made the bar for our man cave using a beautiful cedar wood and then coated our bar tops with epoxy to ensure that they would always be beautiful in a “manly” kind of way. Behind the bar, we have a fully stocked fridge at all times. Once you leave the bar, you will find a card table with chairs, a recliner, and a large screen television. We were hoping for a pool table, but ran a little short on room when we got it all laid out. We also have a fondness for our dart board and all the sports memorabilia hanging on our walls.

Designing Your Man Cave

Comfort is the key to success when it comes to a dark, dingy basement that you hope to turn into a man cave. You can leave the concrete floor and simply add throw rugs or tile. Walls are sometimes a little harder. Most basements have blocks or concrete walls, which are damp and cold. This means you may want to add insulation or seal them up extremely well. A lot of people also add sheet rock to the walls to keep heat inside, but you do have to make sure it is sealed well before you do this. You may still need to add a space heater or some other type of heating source to the room for added comfort. Beyond this, you should add decor that meets your personal style. The theme should be purely “man” in your man cave. Designed for you and the guys, with an occasional visit from the wife and kids if you choose to let them be there.

Where to See the Most Impressive Artwork

wall artArtwork is something that appeals to many people. We all seem to have a preference where it is concerned and at least one thing in our home that can be considered art. Most of this artwork is created through hand crafted pieces, whether it is a painting or a table that someone made to look unique by up-cycling it. Do you know where to see the most impressive artwork that is handcrafted?

Online, Hand-Crafted Art

handcrafted paper artworkThere are a lot of websites out there that are devoted to the people who love creating their own masterpieces. This makes it easy for you to show your support of those people who still make jewelry the old-fashioned way using beads, stones, and metals. Some of these websites allow you to have custom pieces designed for yourself or someone you care about. You can find everything from paintings and drawings, to furniture that has been crafted by someone in their backyard with the hopes of making a little money for their time and effort. However, there are some people who say that to find the truly good things, you need to travel.

Artwork from Afar

handcrafted artwork tableIf you travel to a place such as Mexico, where people have passed down how to create certain things through many generations, you will be able to see true art. There are countries all over the world that have people who depend on their craft to provide for their family. These areas are ideal if you want custom artwork, such as a painting of you and your pet or a wood carving of something special for someone in your family. Before you load up your pet, you will want to know how much does Southwest charge for pets and how much the person there may charge you to create your project. However, in the end, it will not matter since you will have a one-of-a-kind creation that you can cherish always.

Displaying Unique Artwork

When you have artwork in your home, it is important that you display it properly. You wouldn’t want a beautiful painting hidden away in a corner. You want to ensure that it is in an area that can be seen and make it a centerpiece that catches people’s eyes. A piece of furniture that has been handcrafted is best suited for a living room or an entry way, where your family and your guests can all enjoy it. It is then that it will be worth any price you had to pay to receive it.

Outdoor Decor to Set the Mood

water fountainsCreating an outstanding outdoor space is easier than most people think. You can change just a few things on your deck or patio and change the way your space feels instantly. If you do not have a patio, you can create a space within the yard to set the right mood for family nights or relaxation. There are affordable options and those that cost a little more. All it takes is a little creative thinking and some awesome outdoor decor to set the mood.

The Great Outdoors

outdoor cooking areasPeople use their outdoor space in a variety of unique ways. There are those who want to host backyard barbecues and those that simply want to have a space for their family to play. There are also people who prefer to create spaces outdoors where they can curl up with a good book or a cold drink on those hot summer days and cool evenings. They want to focus their attention on napping in a hammock while they listen to birds chirping in the trees above. In all cases, the best way to enjoy the great outdoors is by having the things that make you feel most comfortable around you. If you want a place to have fun, you need to have fun things nearby. If you want to relax after a long day at work, you need to create a mood of relaxation in your space. In most cases, you only have to make a few simple changes and your space can become the envy of all who see it.

Outdoor Furniture to Set the Mood

pool area funIf you want to host barbecues for your family and friends, you need a covered area where you can add lighting and perhaps speakers to help set the mood for fun. Some people also opt to set up an outdoor kitchen area or a fire pit where food can be prepared, and people can hang out while enjoying a little outdoor time. If you want to have a space that is fun for your family to play in, a pool is obviously a first choice, but you can make it more interesting by adding pool lights, reclining lounge chairs, tables with canopies, and perhaps even badminton nets over the pool. If you turn the pool area into a “game space” you will instantly make it more fun and a net allows you to do a variety of new activities. Comfortable outdoor furniture or hammocks, exotic plants, and a small waterfall can give your yard a relaxation spot that will bring more birds and butterflies to your special spot. If you want to create a space that promotes relaxation or romance, you can consider a hot tub, like the ones seen at Dutchtub USA, which can be built into your deck.

Become the Envy of Those You Know

One of the main reasons people dream of owning their own home is to be able to create a space that is truly theirs. It doesn’t have to stop with the house. You can create an amazing space inside and out. Then when you have visitors, they will be envious of the life that you have created for yourself. Its all about creating a space that sets the mood you want to share with others.

unique home decorEveryone who has ever purchased a new home or decided to tackle a remodeling project can tell you that it does not happen for free. In fact, the cost of it can add up quickly when you start talking about new home furnishings and even something as simple as new curtains and rugs. The Cost of Decor

diy affordable home decorWhen you look at the cost of a new end table or coffee table, you can easily spend a couple hundred dollars to buy it new. A new living room or bedroom set could cost you a grand or more. Rugs, even smaller throw rugs can be ten or more dollars each. The price climbs up quickly on everything, big or small. The reason for this is simple; everyone wants their home to look great and have things that match. Therefore, many people will spend a fortune to have their home comfortable and functional.  Home furnishing designers know this, and they know that they can bump up the cost of the things that are most desirable to homeowners. You can outsmart them by taking a little time to figure out what is most important to you.

home decorTo cut costs on home remodeling or decorating, you have to know what your goals are before you start. Many professionals even suggest that you start with organizing home finances so that you know what you have before you dive into decor. It will ensure that you do not end up getting in over your head to the point that you cannot have all that you want to have. You can also cut corners where possible. Buying cheap used furniture and then refinishing it is easy enough to do. It can save you a lot of money and you can repaint in colors that match your decor preferences. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you made it what it becomes. At times, you can find pieces of furniture that are slightly “worn” that cost less than $20 and becomes a piece that looks like it would have cost a hundred or more.

Make Wise Choices in Home Remodeling

Most all people have to plan ahead for the things that they want to do. Even those who are not wanting to remodel, but upgrade an old sofa have to plan for doing it. Anything that you can cut corners on will be helpful, since it will ensure that you are able to do the things you want to do without hurting your overall finances. Buying cheap and re-creating the items can make everything easier to handle. As an added bonus, you can turn those things into items that are uniquely yours. You can customize them to match your specific tastes and make everyone who sees them jealous of what you have accomplished. What more could you hope for?
